Divorce and the Standard of Living
During the course of a marriage, each party becomes accustomed to the standard of living that the couple shared during the marriage. Especially when only one of the spouses was building a career during the marriage and earned the majority of income, the law may require spousal support of some kind.
I have experience with spousal support (formerly called "alimony") and other family law issues. My DuPage County clients appreciate my approach to family law issues. From my Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, law office, I approach my cases with an eye towards quick and equitable settlements, which helps the family avoid the costly, drawn-out courtroom battles that destroy so many relationships going forward.
Spousal Support and Maintenance
Alimony is the term for what is now called spousal support or spousal maintenance, the payments provided by one spouse to the other after a divorce.
A common scenario is two individuals divorcing after many years of marriage during which only one of the parties worked. Because the other party stayed home the entire time and developed no marketable skills or job connections, that party is unable to bring in the same kind of income that was enjoyed during the marriage. The law provides spousal support from the earning spouse, either temporarily or permanently.
Exceptional Representation
When working with my clients, I emphasize an approach which focuses on:
- Quick settlements: I know that there is nothing more harmful to families and children than lengthy, combative litigation. For this reason, I do everything possible to get the issues settled as quickly as possible in a way that is fair for everyone, so that you and your children can get on with your lives.
- Personal attention: I return all phone calls promptly. You will never be left in the dark about your case, and I tailor my legal services to your needs.
- Recognized service: I have been named a 2010 Rising Star by Illinois Super Lawyers. Only 2.5 percent of all attorneys in the state with 10 years or less of legal experience share this distinction.
- Reasonable fees: I do everything I can to keep overhead low and provide you with exceptional legal services at reasonable fees, starting with a free initial consultation.
